Sanwo-Olu Hosts Team Lagos U-15 Champions at Lagos House, Alausa
Lagos House, Alausa, was filled with joy, pride, and applause Friday as Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, hosted a grand reception to celebrate the U-15 student athletes of Team Lagos for their outstanding performance at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
With dignitaries, sports officials, families, and supporters in attendance, the event recognized not only the medals won, but the culture of excellence, determination, and discipline that the young athletes brought to the state’s sporting legacy.
Governor Sanwo-Olu opened the event by describing the event as a celebration of achievement. He congratulating the athletes, coaches, and officials, noting that their success is a testament to what Lagos can achieve, when youth talent is properly nurtured and supported. He emphasized that sports is a critical pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in grassroots athletic development across the state.
To underscore this commitment, the Governor announced cash rewards for medallists, non-medallists, coaches, sports administrators, and officials who contributed to the success of the contingent.
At the 9th National Youth Games, Team Lagos, made history by clinching the overall championship title — a first in the State’s history in the U-15 category. The contingent secured 110 medals in total: 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze, placing Lagos firmly at the top of the national leaderboard.
The medals came from a diverse array of sporting disciplines — athletics, swimming, gymnastics, football, basketball, boxing, cycling, chess, and others — reflecting both the depth and range of youth talent in Lagos.
