Flying Eagles Arrive Chile For U-20 World Cup Showdown Against Argentina
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have landed in Santiago, Chile, ahead of their FIFA U-20 World Cup round of 16 clash against Argentina on Wednesday.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed their arrival in a post on their official X handle on Tuesday. The team, led by coach Aliyu Zubairu, finished third in Group F, securing a knockout spot as one of the best third-placed teams.
How They Qualified
After a narrow 1-0 defeat to Norway in their opener, the Flying Eagles bounced back with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia. In their final group match, captain Daniel Bamayi converted a late penalty to secure a 1-1 draw against Colombia, a result that sealed Nigeria’s progression.
Zubairu praised his team’s resilience after the draw, saying the most important objective was to secure qualification.
Training In Santiago
The team will hold their final training session at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos on Tuesday as preparations intensify for the high-stakes clash with Argentina.
A Familiar Rivalry
Interestingly, Nigeria also faced Argentina in the round of 16 at the 2023 U-20 World Cup, where the Flying Eagles stunned the hosts 2-0. Fans will be hoping history repeats itself as the young Nigerians chase a quarter-final berth.
With the spirit high in camp and confidence from past success, the Flying Eagles are ready for another epic battle against the South American giants.
