Barcelona Nears Registration Of Five Players After Financial Boost
In recent days, the existence of a Plan B to register the pending Barcelona players has been reported. Beyond just using Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s medical report, which would be the ideal scenario, the club has another avenue in mind as well. While it is not ideal, it is an effective strategy.
This particular strategy refers to the club’s board members giving personal guarantees. A method that was used previously to register Jules Kounde back in 2022, it now seems that it could have a role to play this summer as well.
Barcelona board authorises the use of personal guarantees
FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta gives a press conference in response to recent allegations over payments made to referees by the club, at Spotify Camp Nou on April 17, 2023 in Barcelona, Spain. UEFA and Spanish authorities are investigating Barcelona over the payment of millions of euros to the company of Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spanish football’s refereeing committee. If found guilty, UEFA’s investigation could lead to a Champions League ban for the club.
Furthermore, the recent meeting between the club’s board of directors seems to have brought some good news. According to Mundo Deportivo, Joan Laporta and the club’s directors have now approved and authorised the use of personal guarantees if needed.
However, this is because the club believes that even if La Liga approves the revenue from the VIP seats operation, there would still be a deficit of around €7 million to balance the relevant budget. Thus, to stay within the operating window and limits of the 1:1 rule, the board members are willing to personally guarantee that amount.
Consequently, this should then theoretically allow Barça to register all five players that are yet to be registered as first-team players. That list includes new signings Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji, as well as players like Wojciech Szczesny and Gerard Martin.
In Bardghji’s case, there still seems to be the option of registering him with the reserve team, and that could make things slightly less complicated. Either way, this is a big step for Barça, and one that shows the commitment of the club executives as well.
