Can Liverpool Pry Isak Away From Newcastle?
Liverpool will be patient in any potential bid to land ‘dream’ striker target Alexander Isak from Newcastle, according to The Sun.
Earlier this week, The Times reported Newcastle are prepared to fight to keep Isak at St James’ Park and are ready to make him the best-paid player in the club’s history to do so.
Liverpool, who recently bought Florian Wirtz for a British-record transfer fee, reportedly have the funds to test Newcastle’s resolve to keep Isak, but Eddie Howe’s side have no intention to sell the 25-year-old, who has three years left on his contract.
However, while luring Isak, who has not had any fresh talks over a new deal, away from Newcastle is proving difficult, Liverpool are prepared to monitor his situation over the summer, and wait until after Profit and Sustainability Regulations reset on June 30 to make any potential move.
‘Newcastle in strong position with Isak’
“Champions League qualification makes it significantly easier to keep hold of Alexander Isak. He has three years left on his contract and the club are in a strong position to hold firm and keep him this summer.
“Isak himself will be more satisfied knowing he’ll be playing in the Champions League if he stays – that was an issue last summer.
“I do feel the Swede sees another move for himself in the future, though, and that might be something we see next summer if they fail to come to an agreement on a new deal.
“Isak knows he can earn more elsewhere, and he’s ambitious. Whether his ambitions can be met at Newcastle remains to be seen, but I do expect at least one more season at St James’ Park.
“Like Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, he will want to see the club act this summer, though. They need help.”
