Super Eagles Still Have Good World Cup Chance – Nwabali

Chippa United of South Africa goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, is talking with a huge sense of optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and believes the Nigerian team will get a ticket there in October.

Although the Eagles enter the next lap of the qualifiers in fourth spot on their group’s qualification table, Nwabali is of the view that the three-time African champions will pull the chestnut out of the fire and make up on lost ground with their last four matches of the race.

Nwabali, who started his professional career with Go Round FC of Omuku in 2018 and joined Chippa United in 2022, admitted that the Eagles are not unbeatable but believes determination will see them through to the first World Cup that will be co-hosted by three countries.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper, who also previously played for Wikki Tourist of Bauchi, Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Enyimba of Aba and Katsina United, declared: “Despite our quality of players in Nigeria, it does not guarantee us to win every match, but we still have a lot of chances to qualify.”

He concluded by affirming that the Eagles will bounce back to reckoning in the tail end of the campaign, as the players cannot afford to miss two consecutive editions of the world’s most glamorous football competition.

“Despite where we currently are on the log, we still have a lot of chances to qualify. We will still push in our next game. We’ll push in our remaining four games, and we’ll see how things go from there,” Nwabali stated.

He will now look up to victory for the Eagles at home versus Rwanda and away to South Africa in September, as well as visitors to Lesotho and hosts of the Benin Republic in October for the last phase of the qualifiers.
