Bischof To Wear No. 20 For Bayern
Bayern Munich’s new young midfielder Tom Bischof will wear the number 20 shirt for his new club.
Bischof was presented on Friday alongside fellow newcomer and national teammate Jonathan Tah. While Tah’s new number (4) was announced at the same time as his signing, it took a bit longer for Bischof’s new number to be presented.
Bischof used to wear the 39 shirt when he made his professional debut for TSG Hoffenheim, before changing it to 7 for the 2024/25 season. For the national team, which he debuted for just last week, he first wore the 26 shirt, but that is obviously subject to change as his international career progresses.
Bayern’s 20 shirt hasn’t really had many prominent representatives in recent history. The most recent 20 was Arijon Ibrahimović, who is currently on loan to Lazio. Before him, the “legendary” Bouna Sarr donned the 20 shirt for four seasons. Say what you will about Sarr, but he was crowned African champions during his time at Bayern.
Perhaps Bayern’s most famous 20 was none other than former sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić, who won the Champions League in 2001 in said shirt. Here’s hoping that Bischof outclasses him and writes his name in the stars.
