Barcelona’s Flick Focuses On Left Wing, Ignores GK
Barcelona have the rumor mill all excited at present with reports that goalkeeper Joan Garcia is set to swap Espanyol for the Camp Nou.
Yet a new report has emerged that claims Hansi Flick and Deco’s priority is still to bring in a left winger and not another stopper.
According to Diario Sport, the idea of signing a goalkeeper came out of a meeting of the board of directors – one which Deco did not attend.
The report states Flick and Deco had previously met after the end of the season and their priorities were made clear: renew the contracts of key players and sign a left winger if there is any wiggle room financially.
Indeed Flick and Deco decided the “absolute priority” was to sign a left-sided attacker, and the names of Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford were put at the top of the list. Both men have previously admitted they like both players this season.
As for goalkeepers, Flick apparently “does not consider it important” to sign a new stopper following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s return to fitness, and Deco is said to be in agreement.
The Barca boss is said to understand Garcia presents a good market opportunity but knows what he wants and isn’t about to change his mind. Both Flick and Deco know the club do not have the finances available to strengthen all the positions they would like so have had to prioritise.
If the report proves to be true it’s a curious situation, particularly with speculation claiming currently that Barcelona are getting closer to an agreement with Joan Garcia.
