Rangers Star Gives "Lovely" Gift To Michael Essien

Michael Essien is the proud new owner of a Rangers shirt after a gift from Mohamed Diomande.

The ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder took to social media to share his haul after being sent a Gers home top with ‘Diomande 10’ on the back along with a PSV one by Adamo Nagalo.

He wrote on Instagram: “What a lovely gift from my boys. Thank you guys, I love it”, adding a heart emoji as he felt the love.

Before heading to Ibrox, Diomande learned his trade under the former world class midfield dynamo as the retired star took on an assistant coaching role at Nordsjælland.

The 23-year-old appears to be benefiting from the Ghana legend’s tutelage after becoming a key man in the Rangers midfield.

Diomande was also eligible to follow in Essien’s footsteps and play for Ghana but plumped for the country of his birth, Ivory Coast, and how has six caps.

He moved to Ghana as a youngster to play in the Right to Dream academy before going on to work under a true icon of the nation at the Danish side, who have an affiliation with Right to Dream.

Burkina Faso international defender Nagalo followed a similar path – born in Ivory Coast before heading to Ghana with the same academy.

That led him to Nordsjælland too, where he was a teammate of Diomande and played under the coaching of Essien.

Essien won 59 caps for his country and played for Lyon, AC Milan and Panathinaikos as well as the Blues and Real.

He finished his playing career in 2020 with Azerbaijani side Sabail.
