Gabby Agbonlahor has predicted that Arsenal will sell Viktor Gyökeres next summer, with the striker’s future at the Emirates Stadium increasingly under scrutiny following reports of interest in alternative attacking options.
Arsenal could be preparing for another major decision in the transfer market, with former Aston Villa and England striker Gabby Agbonlahor claiming that Viktor Gyökeres will leave the club in 2027.
The Swedish forward arrived from Sporting CP for a reported €65.8 million last summer, but questions have emerged over his role in Mikel Arteta’s plans after he reportedly fell down the pecking order this season.
Speaking to talkSPORT following Gyökeres’ first Premier League start of the campaign against Everton, Agbonlahor expressed doubts about the striker’s performances and made a firm prediction about his future.
“He will be one that won’t be at the club next season,” Agbonlahor said, adding that he believed Arsenal would “100%” sell the forward.
Although the comments have intensified speculation, no confirmed decision by Arsenal to sell Gyökeres has been established in the information available.
Gyökeres joined Arsenal after an impressive spell at Sporting CP, arriving with high expectations and the responsibility of strengthening the club’s attacking options.
According to the supplied report, he scored 21 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions during his debut campaign. However, his position in the team has reportedly become less secure this season, prompting questions about whether he remains central to Arteta’s long-term plans.
Arsenal were also reported to have explored a possible deal involving Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez during the previous summer transfer window. The move did not materialise, with Álvarez reportedly turning down the opportunity to join the Premier League side.
Agbonlahor suggested that Gyökeres could have been included in a potential arrangement to bring the Argentina international to north London.
That scenario remains hypothetical, but it has added to the discussion surrounding Arsenal’s recruitment strategy and the future of their current striker.
Agbonlahor’s criticism focused on Gyökeres’ movement and ability to influence matches, while acknowledging that the forward can hold up the ball.
His assessment was particularly pointed given the expectations attached to a player signed for a substantial transfer fee.
For Arsenal, the challenge is to determine whether Gyökeres needs more time to settle into the team’s style or whether a different attacking profile would better suit the club’s ambitions.
A decision to sell would involve more than evaluating recent performances. Arsenal would also need to consider the financial implications, the availability of replacements and whether another club would meet their valuation.
For now, Agbonlahor’s comments represent an opinion rather than confirmation that a transfer has been agreed or that Arsenal have formally decided to move the striker on.
Several forwards have been mentioned as possible options if Arsenal decide to strengthen or restructure their attack.
The Atlético Madrid forward remains a prominent name in the discussion. However, the report suggests that a move could be difficult, particularly if Barcelona renew their interest in the Argentina international.
Álvarez’s technical ability and experience at the highest level make him an attractive hypothetical option, but there is no confirmed agreement involving Arsenal.
Bournemouth attacker Eli Junior Kroupi is another name linked with Arsenal’s potential recruitment plans. The report identifies the young forward as a possible alternative following an encouraging first season in English football.
Any move would depend on Bournemouth’s position, Arsenal’s assessment of the player and the level of competition for his signature.
Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane. The forward could represent a longer-term investment if the club decides to target a younger option with room to develop.
However, reported interest does not necessarily mean Arsenal will make a formal offer.
Club Brugge forward Nicolò Tresoldi is another name to watch, with the supplied report highlighting his scoring form this season.
His reported goalscoring record has put him into the conversation about Arsenal’s possible attacking targets, although the club’s actual priorities and intentions remain unconfirmed.
Whether Gyökeres leaves next summer will depend on his performances, Arteta’s plans and the club’s wider transfer strategy.
Selling a high-profile signing after a relatively short period would be a significant decision. At the same time, Arsenal must ensure that their attacking options can meet the demands of competing for major trophies.
Agbonlahor’s prediction has added fuel to the transfer debate, but the situation remains speculative. Until Arsenal or the player provides a definitive indication of their plans, a departure in 2027 should not be treated as guaranteed.
For now, attention will remain on Gyökeres’ performances and whether he can strengthen his position in Arteta’s squad before the next transfer window.
