Al-Ahli have reportedly made Mohamed Salah their priority signing of the summer as the Saudi Pro League club searches for a marquee replacement following Riyad Mahrez’s departure.
The Jeddah-based side are eager to add another global superstar to their ranks and have already begun exploring the conditions required to tempt Liverpool’s Egyptian icon to Saudi Arabia.
According to Sky Switzerland, Al-Ahli have opened preliminary discussions to assess the feasibility of signing Salah during the current transfer window.
The Saudi club have requested detailed information regarding the financial package and sporting conditions that would be required to complete one of the biggest transfers of the summer.
Salah has repeatedly been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia over the past few years, but Al-Ahli’s latest approach signals fresh determination to land one of world football’s biggest stars.
Al-Ahli’s pursuit of Salah follows the departure of former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.
The Algerian international recently left the club after both parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent, creating a significant vacancy in the club’s attacking department.
Reports suggest Al-Ahli paid approximately €14.5 million to end Mahrez’s contract early, allowing him to become a free agent.
With one of Africa’s biggest football icons departing, the club’s hierarchy believe Salah represents the ideal successor both on the pitch and commercially.
Although Al-Ahli continue to monitor other attacking options, including Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, Salah stands alone at the top of the club’s wishlist.
The Liverpool legend is viewed as far more than an elite footballer. Club officials reportedly see him as a global ambassador capable of further elevating both Al-Ahli’s profile and the Saudi Pro League’s international appeal.
Despite entering the latter stages of his career, Salah remains among Europe’s most productive forwards, with his consistency, leadership and commercial value making him one of the most coveted players in world football.
Whether Liverpool would entertain an offer for one of the greatest players in the club’s history remains the biggest obstacle, but Al-Ahli appear determined to test the Reds’ resolve in pursuit of another statement signing.
