TRIBUTE: Goodbye Henry Nwosu

Early last year, 2025, the Nigerian national team, the legendary Green Eagles’ captain, Chairman Christian Chukwu, died.

The nation mourned, and people paid tributes with prose and kind words.
However, JOF Nigeria Limited’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Olusegun Olugboyegun, a visionary and football enthusiast, had different thoughts.
He felt more could be done to make former national football stars feel recognized, appreciated, and rewarded while alive.

According to him, “They, the old Nigerian football stars, need to know they were our heroes and feel valued in society for taking the country up there among the comity of nations in the past.”

With this in mind, on Wednesday, April 8th, 2025, at the new corporate JOF headquarters on Lagos mainland, Oregun-Ikeja, Dr. Olugboyegun invited and hosted the Ex-super Eagle footballers and Legend Footballers group, Lagos State, comprising past national team players.

Wahid Akanni, Godwin Okpara, Henry Nwosu, Friday Elaho, Waidi Ipaye, Bright Egbayi, Benson Edema, Monday Kanu, Waidi Akanni, Fatai Amoo, Humphrey, and Emmanuel David were among the stars entertained lavishly and given a special treat. That was one of the best days for Henry Nwosu, judging by his comment and smile as well as other old round-leather kings who gave appreciation to their host.

On Saturday, March 14th, 2026, the football maestro Segun Odegbami broke the news of his passing at ICU of Lagos Teaching Hospital.

Let’s cherish our heroes while they’re with us. Let’s do it right now, tomorrow might be too late.

Recall that since 2020, JOF Nigeria Limited has been sponsoring under-13 football competitions with Lagos State Grassroots Football Association.

Adieu Henry Nwosu, you have made your mark and you will forever be remembered for being a dutiful player!
