Florian Wirtz Injury Update As Arne Slot Speaks Before Wolves Double-Header

Liverpool F.C. fans hoping for a swift return of Florian Wirtz may need to stay patient.

Manager Arne Slot has confirmed that the German playmaker is set for a further spell on the sidelines as the Reds prepare for a crucial double-header against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C..

Back Injury Halts Blistering Form

Wirtz had been electric before his setback, registering four goals and two assists in January and quickly establishing himself as a key creative force at Anfield following his move from Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

However, a back problem picked up during the pre-match warm-up against Nottingham Forest forced him out — and he has since missed victories over Forest and West Ham.

Now, with Liverpool facing Wolves at Molineux in both the Premier League and the FA Cup, Slot admits the timeline is tight.

Slot’s Honest Admission

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Slot said:

“The game probably comes too soon tomorrow and maybe the game at the weekend. We hope to have him back next week.”

The Dutchman also acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the injury:

“At this moment in time, I don’t know… This time, I honestly don’t know.”

It’s a rare moment of ambiguity from a manager typically measured in his updates.

Praise For Wirtz’s Mentality

Slot was quick to highlight Wirtz’s resilience and adaptability since arriving in England:

“It’s a big accomplishment for Wirtz to stay fit for such a long time because he had to make a step up… It tells a lot about his mentality and work rate.”

Transitioning from the Bundesliga to the intensity of the Premier League is no small adjustment. That Wirtz hit the ground running speaks volumes about his quality — which makes his absence even more frustrating for Liverpool’s title ambitions.

Frimpong Boost For The Reds

There was, however, some positive news.

Jeremie Frimpong returned as a substitute against West Ham after a month-long layoff. Slot welcomed the added depth but stressed that his minutes must be managed carefully.

“Having Jeremie back is nice… I prefer to manage how many minutes he can be given rather than see him with the medical team.”

With the fixture list intensifying, squad rotation will be critical.

What This Means For Liverpool

Without Wirtz, Liverpool may need to rely more heavily on midfield creativity from other sources as they chase silverware on multiple fronts.

The Wolves double-header could prove pivotal:

  • League momentum

  • Cup progression

  • Squad fitness balance

If Wirtz returns next week as hoped, it could provide a timely boost heading into a defining stretch of the season.

For now, caution prevails at Anfield.
