napoli supporter at home watching serie a match with emotions running high
A Serie A clash between Napoli and Atalanta took a shocking turn off the pitch on Sunday when a 40-year-old Napoli supporter was stabbed during a domestic argument in Naples.
The incident reportedly unfolded in the Capodimonte district as the couple watched Atalanta’s 2-1 victory over Napoli. Tensions flared after referee Daniele Chiffi awarded Napoli a penalty, which was later overturned by VAR, sparking heated emotions in the household.
Local authorities say the husband reacted angrily to the VAR reversal, shouting at the television. His wife allegedly misinterpreted the comments as directed at her, leading to a violent confrontation.
Police reports indicate that the woman first threw a pair of scissors, missing her husband, before allegedly stabbing him in the left side with a kitchen knife. Another knife ended up embedded in a wall during a second failed attempt.
The injured man was able to call emergency services and was taken to Ospedale del Mare. He is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is said to be in stable condition.
The 35-year-old woman was arrested at the scene. Officers recovered multiple knives from the home, including some from her handbag. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities describing it as a tragic escalation fueled by misunderstanding and high emotions during the football match.
