Real Madrid Loanee Endrick Learns Extent Of Ban After Red Card Drama At Lyon

Real Madrid loanee Endrick has discovered the extent of his punishment after his controversial red card during Lyon’s 1-0 victory over Nantes.

The Brazilian teenager was initially staring at a possible three-match suspension for violent conduct. However, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) Disciplinary Committee has significantly reduced the sanction — handing him a major reprieve.

LFP Downgrades Red Card

After reviewing the incident and examining the referee’s post-match report, the LFP made the decision to rescind the straight red card.

Instead, the offence has been reclassified as a second yellow card, meaning Endrick will now serve only a one-match suspension.

In an official statement, the LFP confirmed:

“After viewing the images and reading the referee’s report proposing to withdraw the red card, the Disciplinary Committee decided to withdraw the red card and replace it with a second yellow card, resulting in exclusion.

Thus, the commission imposes a one-match suspension.”

For Lyon — and Real Madrid — the ruling comes as a welcome relief.

What Happened Against Nantes?

The flashpoint occurred in the 61st minute at the Groupama Stadium.

With Lyon protecting a narrow 1-0 lead, Endrick became entangled with Nantes midfielder Dehmaine Tabibou. In a moment of visible frustration, the 19-year-old appeared to lash out after the ball had gone.

The referee immediately produced a straight red card, leaving Lyon to play the final half-hour with ten men.

Head coach Paulo Fonseca strongly disagreed with the decision at the time:

“For me, it was very harsh, very harsh. There was a very clear foul before the incident. The Nantes player didn’t intend to play the ball, he intended to block Endrick.”

Despite the setback, Lyon held firm to secure their 12th consecutive win in all competitions, thanks to Pavel Sulc’s first-half strike.

A Crucial Break For Endrick

The timing of the decision is significant.

Endrick joined Lyon on loan to gain valuable minutes after struggling for opportunities at Real Madrid, where competition from:

  • Kylian Mbappe

  • Vinicius Junior

  • Rodrygo

limited his chances.

Since arriving in Ligue 1, he has impressed:

  • ⚽ 5 goals in 6 games

  • 🎯 1 assist

  • 📈 Key contributor as Lyon topped their Europa League group

  • 📊 Helped push the club to third in Ligue 1

A lengthy suspension could have stalled his momentum — and potentially impacted his hopes of breaking into Brazil’s World Cup plans.

Development Back On Track

The loan move was designed to accelerate Endrick’s growth in a competitive European environment. So far, it appears to be working.

His explosive pace, aggressive pressing, and clinical finishing have quickly made him one of Ligue 1’s most talked-about young forwards.

Now, with only a one-game ban to serve, his development path remains largely uninterrupted.

For Real Madrid, that’s exactly what they will have wanted.

In the high-stakes global sports market, managing young talent development is crucial. And for Endrick, this episode may serve as a valuable lesson in discipline — without derailing a breakout campaign.
