VIDEO: Miss of the Season?! Cole Palmer Blazes Over from Two Yards as Chelsea Held by Leeds
Chelsea were left stunned at Stamford Bridge after Cole Palmer somehow missed from point-blank range in stoppage time, denying the Blues a dramatic late winner in their 2-2 draw against Leeds United.
It was a moment that could define the title race — or at the very least, Chelsea’s push for consistency.
From Control to Chaos
The Blues looked comfortable early on.
-
⚽ João Pedro opened the scoring.
-
⚽ Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot.
At 2-0, Chelsea appeared in full control.
But Leeds had other ideas.
Goals from Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor dragged the visitors level, silencing the Stamford Bridge crowd and shifting the momentum completely.
The Miss That Shocked Stamford Bridge
Then came the moment.
Deep into stoppage time, Palmer ghosted in at the far post to meet a low cross. With the goal at his mercy and just yards out, the 23-year-old somehow blazed over the crossbar.
It was the kind of chance he buries almost every time.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson reacted in disbelief:
“No! Palmer has just missed from two yards! He’s still standing in the goal with his mouth open… I can’t believe what I’ve just seen. He couldn’t do that again if he tried.”
For a player known for composure and clinical finishing, it was almost surreal.
Rosenior: “999 Times Out of 1000, He Scores”
Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior defended his talisman after the match:
“He’s in the position. 999 times out of 1000, he scores. It was just that one in that moment. We shouldn’t be in that position. The game should be done at 2-0.”
Rosenior admitted frustration at letting the game slip:
“If we can focus and concentrate for 90 minutes, this team has unbelievable potential… I already know what we need to work on.”
Cole Palmer with a miss of the season contender! 😱
Chelsea’s main man had the chance to win it in the 94th minute but he puts it over from right in front.

Bigger Picture for Chelsea
For all the drama around the miss, the real concern will be how Chelsea allowed a comfortable 2-0 lead to evaporate.
Palmer’s moment will dominate headlines — but game management remains the bigger issue.
Still, one thing is certain:
If that same chance falls to Cole Palmer again, you’d back him to score.
Almost every time.
