Ruben Amorim Receives £10m Pay-Off As Darren Fletcher Steps In At Manchester United

Manchester United parted ways with Ruben Amorim on Monday, ending the Portuguese coach’s turbulent 14-month spell at Old Trafford. Reports indicate that Amorim walked away with a sizable pay-off of around £10 million, taking the total cost of his hiring and firing to nearly £27 million.

The announcement was made by Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox after a week of escalating tensions between Amorim and the club’s hierarchy.

Amorim’s Record At Old Trafford

Amorim’s tenure failed to bring the consistency and results expected at a club of Manchester United’s stature. During his 63 games in charge, he secured only 25 wins, leaving him with the lowest points-per-game average and worst win percentage of any United manager in the Premier League era.

The club currently sits sixth in the Premier League, having missed out on European qualification last season for only the second time in 35 years — a situation that added pressure to Amorim’s position.

Interim Leadership: Darren Fletcher Steps Up

In the wake of Amorim’s departure, Under-18s coach and club legend Darren Fletcher has been appointed interim manager. Fletcher will take charge of Wednesday’s Premier League fixture against Burnley and the upcoming FA Cup tie against Brighton.

The temporary appointment gives United breathing room to carefully consider long-term managerial candidates. Names like Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti have already been linked to Old Trafford, particularly with the World Cup creating potential openings later this year.

What’s Next For Manchester United?

While Fletcher’s interim role will ensure continuity, the club is clearly looking for a permanent solution to restore Manchester United to its former glory. Fans will be hoping that the next appointment can deliver the consistency, authority, and tactical acumen that the Red Devils have been missing.

For now, all eyes are on Fletcher as he takes the helm for the next critical fixtures, while United’s board weighs their options for a long-term managerial strategy.
