“He’ll Never Be Eden Hazard” – Gary Neville Slams Pedro Neto After Frustrating Chelsea Display In Man City Draw

Pedro Neto found himself at the centre of a ruthless reality check after Chelsea’s hard-fought draw against Manchester City — and the verdict was anything but gentle.

Despite helping the Blues escape the Etihad with a valuable point, the Portuguese winger was bluntly told he will “never be Eden Hazard”, as Gary Neville laid into what he described as a “bloody frustrating” performance.

Neto Under The Microscope At The Etihad

Chelsea went into the clash under caretaker manager Calum McFarlane, following Enzo Maresca’s dismissal on New Year’s Day. Against a title-chasing Manchester City side, expectations were modest — but scrutiny remained intense.

Neto, a regular starter and one of Chelsea’s most expensive attacking investments, showed flashes of promise without ever truly hurting City. And for Neville, that summed up the problem.

Gary Neville’s Brutal Assessment

Speaking on Sky Sports, the Manchester United legend didn’t mince words as he compared Neto to a club icon Chelsea fans still revere.

“Pedro Neto… he bloody frustrated me like you won’t believe,” Neville said.
“He’s a smidgen away from being an Eden Hazard but he’s never going to be an Eden Hazard because he hasn’t got that killer instinct.”

Neville went further, explaining what separates good attackers from truly elite ones.

“Hazard had that beautiful glide about him but he was also a killer. You’ve got to be ruthless in those moments and Neto isn’t that.”

It was a damning comparison — and one that quickly sparked debate among Chelsea supporters online.

Chelsea’s Bigger Picture Problem

Neto’s numbers this season — six goals and three assists — are respectable, but performances like the one against City highlight Chelsea’s recurring issue: plenty of talent, not enough end product.

Neville summed it up perfectly, calling Chelsea “a nice team” — football’s faintest praise.

City dominated large spells and went ahead through Tijjani Reijnders, but Chelsea’s resilience paid off when Enzo Fernández grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser.

“Chelsea deserved a point, in a way, because of how they reacted,” Neville admitted,
“but they should have been killed off.”

McFarlane Proud, But Change Is Coming

Caretaker boss Calum McFarlane praised his side’s character, especially after tactical tweaks at half-time.

“We were exceptional in the second half… We showed a lot of character and resilience,” he told Sky Sports.

However, his reign is temporary. All signs point to Liam Rosenior — currently with Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg — as the next permanent manager.

Whoever takes charge will inherit a familiar Chelsea challenge:
👉 turning potential into dominance
👉 flashes into consistency
👉 and “nice” performances into ruthless ones

And for Pedro Neto, the message from Neville is clear — if he wants to escape Hazard’s shadow, frustration must give way to decisiveness.
