Eric Garcia Plans To Spend Whole Life At Barcelona After Signing Long-Term Deal Until 2031

Eric Garcia has officially committed his future to Barcelona, signing a long-term contract that ties him to the club until 2031. After years of uncertainty and multiple attempts to establish himself in the first team, the defender now says his “dream” is to spend his entire career at Camp Nou.

This marks a remarkable turnaround for the 24-year-old, whose Barcelona journey has been anything but straightforward.

Garcia’s comeback story

Barcelona’s renewal of Garcia’s contract is a powerful signal of trust. After returning from Manchester City in 2021, Garcia struggled for consistency and minutes. His first two seasons were filled with criticism and pressure, which eventually led to a loan move to Girona.

But that loan spell changed everything.

Garcia became a key figure in Girona’s historic Champions League qualification run, showcasing his intelligence on the ball, positional discipline, and growing maturity. Barcelona took notice, and upon his return, he slotted seamlessly into the defensive structure. His versatility—being able to play as a centre-back or holding midfielder—made him even more valuable.

This earned him the six-year contract extension he signed this week.

“My dream was to triumph here”

Speaking after the signing, Garcia opened up emotionally about why this moment means so much to him.

He described his Barcelona journey as achieving his dream “at the third time of asking.” After leaving La Masia for Manchester City as a teenager, returning, then departing again on loan, he now feels settled and fully ready.

“The dream before leaving for City was to triumph at Barca,” Garcia said. “When you return, the dream starts again. I had to go to Girona, but my dream was to triumph here, to play my whole life here.”

He added that consistent playing time helped him mature and return to Camp Nou with renewed belief.

“I have always believed that I could be a starter, whether I played or not. I am enjoying the starts, but if one day the manager doesn’t play me, I will keep believing.”

Learning to ignore the noise

Garcia also addressed the intense criticism he faced in his early Barcelona years, a period marked by instability at the club on and off the pitch. As a young defender, he was often blamed for defensive mistakes, but he says those experiences shaped him.

“When I came back I was very young… You go from being the best to the worst,” he said. “I arrived in a difficult era in which the club demanded results. It kept me calm. Now, neither by playing well am I the best, nor when I mess up will I be the worst.”

He highlighted consistency and composure as the traits that make great players:
“One has to be calm when things get tough, keep your head down. Afterwards, everything comes.”

With his future secure, Garcia is now focused on writing the next chapter of his Barcelona story—one he hopes will last a lifetime.
