Gerrard Urges Mohamed Salah To Resolve Frustrations With Arne Slot Privately
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has weighed in on the growing tension between Mohamed Salah and manager Arne Slot, urging the Egyptian superstar to handle his frustrations privately for the benefit of the team and the fans.
Salah was recently left out of Liverpool’s squad, leading to speculation about the state of his relationship with Slot. Gerrard, drawing on his own experiences as a former Liverpool captain, emphasized the importance of keeping disagreements behind closed doors.
Gerrard’s Advice To Salah
Gerrard said:
“He’s obviously really upset he’s not playing, which I respect. He won’t sit out the team, I respect. A couple of lines about throwing people under the bus, wrong. Need to reverse a little bit away from that; he needs to deal with that with the manager.”
The Liverpool legend also suggested that club captain Virgil van Dijk could act as a mediator to defuse tensions and restore harmony within the dressing room:
“This needs Virgil van Dijk to go, ‘I’m sorting this out for the benefit of, not even so much the club or the team. It’s the fans.’”
Lessons From The Past
Gerrard referenced a similar situation during his Liverpool days, recalling the 2013 fallout between Luis Suárez and Brendan Rodgers, which threatened to destabilize the team before it was eventually resolved face-to-face:
“I’ve seen this, and I’ve lived it. I’ve lived it with Suarez when he fell out with Brendan face-to-face.”
His comments highlight the delicate balance between star players and management and underscore the need for professionalism and communication in high-pressure football environments.
What This Means For Liverpool
For Liverpool, resolving the Salah-Slot situation quickly is vital:
-
Ensures team morale remains high
-
Prevents further media speculation
-
Keeps focus on domestic and European competitions
With Salah still a pivotal player for the Reds, a quick resolution behind closed doors could be the key to maintaining momentum in their season.
