Paul Scholes Doubts Arsenal’s Title Credentials, Backs Man City To Take Premier League Crown
Scholes Questions Arsenal’s Title Chances
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has expressed doubts over Arsenal’s ability to maintain their Premier League lead this season. Despite the Gunners holding a 2-point advantage at the top of the table, Scholes believes they lack the mental strength and consistency required to lift the trophy.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes said Arsenal are “failing to perform in some of the big games they are expected to win,” highlighting recent setbacks against Aston Villa and other top opposition.
Arsenal’s Recent Struggles Highlighted
The former United midfielder pointed to Arsenal’s poor record in crucial matches this season:
-
Losing to Liverpool and Aston Villa.
-
Failing to beat Manchester City at home when City were struggling.
-
Dropping points against ten-man Chelsea earlier in the campaign.
Scholes remarked:
“Until they start winning big games, they’ve got no chance of winning the league. Arsenal just can’t win big games.”
Manchester City Favoured To Challenge
In contrast, Scholes believes Manchester City are in a stronger position to win the title. Historically, City have improved in the second half of the season, and Scholes feels this trend gives Pep Guardiola’s side a distinct advantage over Arsenal.
“Man City have a great chance now, don’t they? They always get better after January, which puts them in a great position,” he added.
What This Means For The Title Race
With Arsenal faltering in key fixtures and Manchester City poised to strengthen their challenge as the season progresses, the Premier League race could be closer than many expect. Fans will be watching eagerly to see if Mikel Arteta’s men can prove Scholes wrong or if City continue their pattern of dominating the second half of the campaign.
