Emmanuel Michael Breaks Into Tears After Making Super Eagles AFCON Provisional List
LASK defender Emmanuel Michael has revealed that he broke into tears after seeing his name on the Super Eagles’ 54-man provisional squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The 19-year-old left-back, a product of the Kaduna-based Simoiben Academy owned by Ibukun Simon — wife of Super Eagles star Moses Simon — has made just five appearances this season for LASK, but his progress has not gone unnoticed.
Michael first caught national attention at the U17 level, where he delivered a stunning performance during the WAFU B tournament. He won three Man of the Match awards in five matches and scored three goals directly from free kicks, showcasing both composure and creativity beyond his years.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who is focused on rebuilding and integrating young talents into the national team, believes Michael fits perfectly into the long-term vision.
Speaking exclusively, the youngster revealed the emotional moment he learned of his call-up:
“I didn’t expect my name to be there, so I wasn’t even thinking about it. Then I saw missed calls everywhere and messages of congratulations. I was confused until my agent sent me the list — and I broke into tears.”
Michael, who will join the camp when preparations begin in Egypt, says he is determined to make the most of this rare opportunity.
“At 19, it’s not all the time you get a chance with the senior national team. My idea is to give my best, just like my fellow former academy mate Benjamin Fredrick did when he got his chance. I want to make the best out of it.”
For Nigeria, this is another exciting addition to a new generation of players eager to step into the spotlight and shape the future of the Super Eagles.
