Werder Bremen Boss Shuts Down Criticism As Victor Boniface Hunts For Redemption
Super Eagles star Victor Boniface has found himself at the center of heated conversations this season, but one person is not having any of the negativity — his Werder Bremen manager, Steffen Horst.
The Nigerian striker has faced constant criticism from fans, pundits, and social media voices questioning his form and even his professionalism. But ahead of Bremen’s clash with FC Köln, Horst firmly shut down the noise.
According to the coach, the idea that Boniface lacks commitment is completely unfounded. Horst made it clear that he sees none of the laziness, distraction, or attitude issues that people online have been quick to assume.
“Who comes up with the idea of making such a statement?” Horst said via Kicker. He went on to emphasize that Boniface has been nothing but disciplined and hardworking in training.
In his words, the striker has been “a solid professional,” and any rumor suggesting otherwise is simply baseless.
Boniface, who joined Werder Bremen on deadline day after a move to AC Milan fell through, has had a challenging start to life in Germany. With no goal yet and just two assists in nine appearances, the pressure has been heavy. Critics have pointed to his goal drought, social media presence, and confidence dip — but his coach sees a player who is committed and hungry to return to form.
The bigger concern now is ending the dry spell. The Nigerian forward hasn’t scored a competitive goal in eight months, but his determination remains obvious. Each appearance shows effort, fight, and a player eager to rediscover his rhythm.
With FC Köln struggling defensively this season — conceding 19 goals in 11 games — Boniface has a perfect chance to break the cycle. And one goal could be all he needs to regain the explosive confidence he is known for.
When Boniface is firing, he is one of the most dangerous attackers in the Bundesliga. Bremen fans will hope this upcoming fixture becomes the turning point.
