Team Nigeria Lands In Cairo For 2025 World Karate Championship
Team Nigeria has officially arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 2025 World Karate Championship, set to run from November 27 to 30. The delegation departed Nigeria on Monday, brimming with optimism, pride, and determination as they prepare to face the world’s elite karatekas.
Five Elite Athletes Represent Nigeria
The Nigerian contingent features five outstanding athletes:
-
Loveth Ngozi Okoro – Kumite -50kg
-
Godfirst Orie Ukoha-Sampson – Kumite -55kg
-
Constance Tamunodiepreye Abode – Kumite -61kg
-
Ujunwa Caroline Nwankwo – Kumite +68kg
-
Oluwaseun Olorunbe – Male Kata
The team is under the expert guidance of Coach Efezino Akpotu, while Olusegun Abode serves as the head of delegation.
Female Karatekas Ready To Shine
Nigeria’s female athletes — Ngozi, Godfirst, Constance, and Ujunwa — are tipped to deliver strong performances. These fighters have been regular standouts at the Zainab Saleh International Female Open Karate Championship, a key platform that has elevated the profile of women’s karate in Nigeria.
The tournament, founded and championed by Hajiya Zainab Saleh, a board member of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), has produced several rising stars and helped strengthen Nigeria’s global reputation in female karate.
KFN Seeks Support From Government
While confident in the team’s chances, the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) has appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC) for financial support to cover outstanding expenses for the team’s participation abroad.
The Federation highlighted that the World Championship falls within the mandate of the NSC and urged the commission to assist as the competition unfolds in Cairo.
With preparations complete and spirits high, Team Nigeria is ready to put up a strong showing on the world stage. The nation waits with pride and anticipation as the championship kicks off in Egypt.
