Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public vote of confidence played a pivotal role in changing the atmosphere at Old Trafford and turning around the club’s challenging season.
Amorim endured a shaky start to the Premier League campaign, with questions surrounding his tactics and team selections. A 3-1 defeat to Brentford in late September only intensified scrutiny on the Portuguese manager.
During the October international break, Ratcliffe publicly stated that Amorim should be evaluated over a three-year period. The endorsement sent shockwaves across the media and fanbase, calming critics and giving the squad a sense of stability.
“If you remember when Jim gave the interview, it settled down a lot around the club,” Amorim said.
“The noise around the club changed completely, and that was really important for the team and me. It had a huge impact—not on the way I do things—but on the way people see what we are doing. So it was massive for us.”
While the public support was crucial, Amorim stressed that it aligned with private communications he had received from Ratcliffe.
“It’s always really important—but it’s more important for the fans to understand we have a clear path and we are going to continue to follow it,” he told StanSport.
“For me, it doesn’t change much—I’m not worried about losing my job. It’s a good thing to hear, but it will not change anything in the way I behave. I know clearly which path I have to go.”
Amorim’s next test comes against Everton on Monday night, exactly one year after his first match in charge, a 1-1 draw with Ipswich. The Portuguese coach remains focused on consolidating United’s form, confident that Ratcliffe’s backing has strengthened both his position and the team’s mindset.
With stability returning and the pressure eased, Manchester United fans can hope for a stronger second half of the season as Amorim continues to imprint his style on the squad.
