Arsenal Confirm Devastating Blow To Lionesses Prospect Katie Reid With Season-Ending ACL Injury
Arsenal have confirmed a heartbreaking update for rising star Katie Reid, who will miss the rest of the 2025/26 season after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a recent training session.
The 19-year-old, who had been enjoying a breakout season with the Gunners, is set to undergo surgery in the coming days. The club released an official statement saying:
“We can confirm that Katie Reid has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury during a recent training session. Katie will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.”
Reid had been in outstanding form—earning Arsenal’s Player of the Month award in September and even receiving her first senior Lionesses call-up in October. Sadly, that dream debut will now have to wait.
The injury adds to a worrying trend in women’s football, as Reid becomes the seventh WSL player to suffer an ACL injury this season alone. Arsenal teammates Manuela Zinsberger and Michelle Agyemang, along with Tottenham’s Maite Oroz, are also among the growing list of victims of this recurring issue.
Reid took to Instagram to express her heartbreak, writing:
“I am devastated to share that I have ruptured my ACL. There’s been lots of tears, and I’m sure there will be many more to come, but I am extremely grateful for the love and support around me. The road to recovery starts now and I’ll give my all to be back stronger.”

Her teammates were quick to show support — Alessia Russo commented, “The comeback will be incredible,” while Leah Williamson encouraged her, saying, “You got this.”
As the women’s game continues to grapple with the rise of ACL injuries, Reid’s setback serves as another painful reminder of the urgent need for research, prevention, and better training adaptations.
For now, Arsenal fans — and indeed all of women’s football — will be rooting for Katie Reid’s full recovery and return to the pitch stronger than ever.
