Yves Bissouma during a Tottenham Hotspur Premier League match
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has reportedly been the victim of a major financial fraud, losing more than £800,000 from his VIP Coutts bank account, according to The Sun.
The £30 million-rated Spurs star, who joined from Brighton in 2022, allegedly had £834,334.40 stolen between September 2022 and June 2024.
A 31-year-old man identified as Maurice Gomes has been charged with two counts of fraud by false representation, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police. Court documents claim Gomes “dishonestly transferred” funds from Bissouma’s account to himself “without the player’s knowledge or consent.”
If convicted, Gomes could face up to 10 years in prison for each offence.
The alleged fraud was reported over a year ago after Bissouma noticed irregular transactions in his Coutts account — the same elite private bank used by royals, billionaires, and top celebrities.
Gomes, who reportedly lives in a £1.4 million home in Enfield, North London, is set to appear before Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court. The connection between him and the footballer remains unclear, as does how he managed to gain access to the player’s high-security account.
The Mali international, currently earning around £50,000 per week at Spurs, may be required to give evidence if the case proceeds to trial.
Since joining Tottenham, Bissouma has established himself as a key part of the midfield setup under Ange Postecoglou, praised for his composure and ball-winning ability. The shocking fraud revelation comes amid what had been a period of personal and professional stability for the 29-year-old.
