Hull KR and Brisbane Broncos players facing off in World Club Challenge promotional image
The World Club Challenge is officially back — and this time, it’s heading to Hull. Super League champions Hull Kingston Rovers (Hull KR) will face NRL title holders Brisbane Broncos on 19 February 2026 in what promises to be one of the most electrifying rugby league events in recent years.
The prestigious intercontinental clash, which did not take place in 2025 due to scheduling conflicts between Penrith Panthers and Wigan Warriors, will finally make its long-awaited return. For Hull KR, it’s a moment of history — their first appearance as Super League champions and a chance to test themselves against one of the NRL’s most dominant forces.
The fixture will be played at Hull FC’s 25,000-capacity MKM Stadium, ensuring thousands more fans can witness the occasion live. The club confirmed the venue choice as part of a wider effort to give supporters an unforgettable spectacle.
“With offers from around the world to host the game, we are delighted to bring the World Club Challenge home to Hull,” said Hull KR chief executive Paul Lakin.
“We’re determined to put on the biggest rugby league event the city has ever seen.”
For the Brisbane Broncos, the matchup presents a chance to make history. Despite the club’s storied legacy in Australian rugby league, they haven’t lifted the World Club Challenge trophy since 1997. Head coach Michael Maguire expressed excitement about the upcoming trip:
“It’s a special opportunity to take a group of players and staff across to the other side of the world to take on the Super League champions,” Maguire said.
The Broncos will bring their trademark intensity and depth to challenge Hull KR’s fast-paced, attack-minded style — setting the stage for a thrilling trans-hemisphere showdown.
The World Club Challenge, first held in 1976, is one of rugby league’s most prestigious events — a battle for world supremacy between the best of the Super League and the NRL. Its 2026 edition not only marks the competition’s 31st staging but also reinforces rugby league’s growing international appeal and commercial strength in the global sports market.
For Hull and its fans, the city will once again become the beating heart of rugby league — welcoming fans from both sides of the globe for a night that could redefine the sport’s modern era.
