Asisat Oshoala Dismisses Retirement Rumors, Confirms She’s ‘Not Going Anywhere’

Nigeria’s football queen Asisat Oshoala has once again shown why she’s a legend — not just on the pitch but in her resilience off it. The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year has shut down viral rumors suggesting she’s planning to retire after the next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The reports, which spread rapidly across social media earlier this week, claimed that the former Barcelona Femeni striker and current Saudi Arabia-based star would hang up her boots after leading the Super Falcons in their title defense. But Oshoala has now rubbished those claims, calling them “completely false.”

According to respected women’s football journalist Samuel Ahmadu, the Super Falcons forward personally confirmed that she never made any retirement statements and remains fully focused on her career.

“Nigeria star Asisat Oshoala has dismissed the false reports making the rounds, confirming to me that she never made such statements and is not considering retirement any time soon,” Ahmadu revealed via his verified X account.

Still Hungry For More Glory

This clarification will surely come as great news to Nigerian fans eager to see the prolific forward continue her remarkable run in green and white. Oshoala remains a cornerstone of the Super Falcons squad, having helped Nigeria clinch a record-extending 10th WAFCON title and inspiring a new generation of female footballers across Africa.

Her passion, leadership, and goal-scoring instinct have made her one of the most decorated and respected players in African football history — and if her latest statement is anything to go by, she’s far from done.

Eyes On Morocco 2026

With the 2026 WAFCON set to take place in Morocco, Oshoala will be gunning for yet another continental triumph, as Nigeria aims to reinforce its dominance in women’s football.

Fans can breathe easy — Asisat Oshoala isn’t retiring; she’s reloading.

At Sports Market International, we celebrate legends like Oshoala — athletes who redefine African excellence, silence the noise, and let their passion do the talking.
