Lamine Yamal’s Injury Woes Continue As Hansi Flick Opens Up On Barcelona Star’s Struggle

It was a night of mixed emotions for Barcelona fans as their teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, found the net yet again — but head coach Hansi Flick’s post-match comments revealed the story behind the smile.

After a disappointing Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, Barca needed a bounce-back performance, and they got it against Elche. The Catalans came out flying, with Alejandro Balde linking up beautifully to assist Yamal for the opener just nine minutes in. The 18-year-old’s composure and sharpness reminded everyone why he’s been dubbed one of Europe’s brightest talents.

But despite the early spark, Yamal’s game took a dip in the second half, leading to his substitution. Fortunately, Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford stepped up, scoring Barca’s third goal in the 61st minute to seal a hard-fought 3–1 win.

Flick’s candid take: “He has to manage his injury”

Speaking after the game, Hansi Flick struck a realistic tone about Yamal’s ongoing battle with fitness. “He has to manage his injury; he’s disciplined. He has to train, undergo treatment… he’s doing it. I can’t say the injury is over; it comes and goes. And he has to manage it,” the German coach said.

Those words hit hard. For a teenager carrying so much expectation, it’s a reminder that even the brightest stars need careful management — especially when the body isn’t always keeping up with the dream.

Yamal’s 88-minute shift against Elche showed grit, but Flick’s message was clear: the club is balancing between developing his brilliance and preserving his health.

“We lack quality” – Flick’s honest assessment

In true Flick fashion, the coach didn’t sugarcoat the team’s overall display either. Despite the win, he acknowledged Barca’s midfield struggles and admitted they’re missing the creative spark of Pedri. “It’s not difficult to have control without Pedri. We can do that too… but we lack quality,” he said.

It’s a bold statement, but also a reality check for a squad that’s been hit with injuries and inconsistency. Still, Flick praised his players’ fighting spirit, highlighting that “the most important thing is the three points.”
