Gian Piero Gasperini Issues Worrying Update On Paulo Dybala After Argentina Star Suffers Thigh Injury

It was a night to forget for Paulo Dybala and AS Roma fans, as the Argentine playmaker not only missed a crucial penalty but also picked up a thigh injury in the process. Roma’s boss, Gian Piero Gasperini, described the setback as a “huge loss” for the team after their 1–0 defeat to AC Milan.

Dybala’s rare penalty miss and injury blow

Roma went into the clash with a golden opportunity to climb to the top of Serie A following Napoli’s goalless draw against Como. But things didn’t go as planned. Strahinja Pavlovic’s 39th-minute goal gave Milan the edge, and despite Roma’s dominance, they couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Late in the game, Dybala stepped up to take a penalty — his first in Roma colours — but his shot was stopped by Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. To make matters worse, the Argentine appeared to strain his thigh during the kick, limping off soon after.

This marked Dybala’s first penalty miss since November 2021, when he was still at Juventus — almost four years ago.

Gasperini confirms Dybala will be out “until after the break”

Speaking to reporters, Gasperini didn’t hide his frustration at losing his star man:

“The worst thing of all on the penalty is that Dybala got injured. Now we need to see how long he’ll be out, certainly until after the break for international duty. This is the biggest loss of the night.”

For Roma fans, that statement will sting. Dybala has been a driving force in the club’s attack this season, and his absence could derail their early momentum in the title race.

Gasperini’s reflection: “We created chances but lacked finishing”

Despite the defeat, Gasperini praised his side’s attitude and quality.

“We created lots of chances, this is the approach I want to take… our first half was excellent, with strong character to dominate a strong team on their own turf. We are angry and have regrets, but also confidence that we’re on the right path.”

Still, the coach couldn’t ignore Roma’s wastefulness in front of goal. Missing four out of five penalties across competitions this season has cost them valuable points. Gasperini hinted that the team must develop the killer instinct that defines Europe’s elite sides.

What this means for Roma

With the international break around the corner, Roma will hope Dybala’s injury isn’t too severe. The Argentine’s creativity and precision remain vital to their Serie A ambitions. Gasperini’s side may be improving in style and structure, but without their talisman, turning dominance into victories could prove even harder.

For now, the message is clear — Roma must regroup, sharpen their finishing, and hope Dybala’s recovery is swift.
