Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has included Paul Onuachu in his provisional list of players for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers playoff against Gabon, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The decision marks a potential return for the 31-year-old striker, who last featured for the national team in June 2024 during Finidi George’s tenure. Onuachu played in the 1-1 draw against South Africa and the 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic, both in the qualifiers.
Since then, the tall forward has rediscovered his scoring touch in Turkey. Onuachu has been in remarkable form for Trabzonspor, leading the Super Lig scoring charts with seven goals in ten games this season.
Sources reveal that his red-hot form made his inclusion “a no-brainer” for Chelle, who prioritizes rewarding players based on consistent club performances.
However, while Onuachu’s name appears in the provisional squad, it remains uncertain if he will make the final list for the double-header clash in Morocco next month.
If selected, his experience and aerial dominance could be key weapons for the Super Eagles as they aim to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
