Nigeria’s track sensation and world-record holder Tobi Amusan is gearing up to launch her eighth Wanda Diamond League campaign in Doha on May 8, 2026. The Qatari capital will once again host the season opener — a venue that holds special memories for Amusan.
It was in Doha back in 2022 that Amusan began a historic campaign, going on to win Nigeria’s first-ever world title in the women’s 100m hurdles, set a world record, defend her Commonwealth Games title, and capture her second Diamond League trophy.
After a difficult 2024 season where she narrowly missed the Olympic final, Amusan bounced back strongly in 2025, winning silver at the World Championships in Tokyo — proof that the hurdling queen is once again close to her peak.
Amusan won’t be the only Nigerian athlete under the spotlight in the 2026 Diamond League.
Long jump star Ese Brume is expected to make a long-awaited return after missing the past two seasons. Her comeback would add strength to Nigeria’s presence on the global circuit.
Meanwhile, Udodi Onwuzurike and Nathaniel Ezekiel — both of whom impressed in their Diamond League debuts in 2025 — are tipped to build on their momentum. Shot put champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will also be chasing a spot in the finals after narrowly missing out last year.
Emerging names such as Kanyinsola Ajayi, a World 100m finalist, and Samuel Ogazi, who made the Olympic 400m final, could also debut in the 2026 series, signaling the next generation of Nigerian athletic talent.
The 2026 Wanda Diamond League will span 14 meetings across four continents, concluding with a two-day final in Brussels on September 4-5. After Doha, the tour moves through Shanghai, Xiamen, Rabat, and major European cities including Rome, Paris, Monaco, London, and Zurich.
With no Olympic Games or World Championships scheduled for 2026, the Diamond Trophy will stand as the most coveted global prize in track and field — and Amusan will be right at the heart of the chase.
The queen is back, and once again, all eyes will be on Tobi Amusan as she takes her first hurdles of the season in Doha.
