Liverpool Fans Blast Mohamed Salah For ‘Selfish’ Play In Win Over Eintracht Frankfurt
Liverpool fans have turned on star forward Mohamed Salah, accusing him of being selfish during their 6-1 Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt, according to Daily Mail.
Despite the emphatic victory, the Egyptian found himself at the centre of fan outrage after choosing to shoot instead of setting up Florian Wirtz, who was in a perfect position to score his first goal for the club.
Salah’s Late Cameo Sparks Debate
Salah, who started the game on the bench, was introduced in the 74th minute with the Reds already cruising at 5-1. Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai had sealed the win early.
But as the match neared its end, Salah had the opportunity to square the ball for Wirtz, the £116 million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen, who has been desperate to open his Liverpool account.
Instead, Salah opted to go for goal — a decision that didn’t sit well with supporters.
Fans React: “He’s Too Selfish!”
Fans took to social media to express their frustration.
“That would’ve been Wirtz’s first goal if Salah wasn’t so selfish there,” one fan wrote. “He did a similar thing vs United where Wirtz and Isak had easy finishes but he wanted a goal himself.”
Another added:
“Salah needs to drop this selfish nonsense. Could’ve had two assists tonight if he passed instead of shooting.”
Some even called for Arne Slot to drop the forward for Liverpool’s next Premier League clash against Brentford.
“Salah must be dropped. Wasteful, desperate, and selfish,” a fan ranted. “Clear pass to Wirtz, but he chose greed.”
From Hero To Criticism
It’s been a mixed season for Salah, who just months ago was crowned PFA Player of the Year after leading Liverpool to the 2024/25 Premier League title with 34 goals and 23 assists.
This campaign, however, he’s managed just three goals and three assists in 12 games, sparking debate about whether he should retain his guaranteed starting spot under new manager Slot.
As Liverpool aim to bounce back from three consecutive Premier League defeats, fans are now questioning whether Salah’s mindset and decision-making are helping or hurting the team’s momentum.
