Nigerian international midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been removed from Lazio’s registered player list following the injury he sustained in last month’s Serie A clash against AS Roma.
The 23-year-old has missed Lazio’s last three games, including crucial fixtures with the Super Eagles, due to the setback. Reports now suggest that his recovery will take much longer than initially expected, with the earliest possible return date projected for late January.
Following surgery, Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri was forced to refresh his list of registered players, leaving Dele-Bashiru out of the squad for the first half of the season. The midfielder’s spot may only be reconsidered in the January transfer window, when clubs are allowed to resubmit their player lists.
Dele-Bashiru’s exclusion comes just months after he completed a permanent move to Lazio from Turkish side Hatayspor, where he impressed during his loan spell. The Italian club triggered an obligation-to-buy clause in the summer, showing their belief in his long-term potential.
While this injury is a setback, both Lazio and Nigerian fans will be hopeful that Fisayo returns stronger and fitter in 2025, ready to reclaim his place in midfield.
