Great Britain Clinch Nine Golds To Finish Second At Para-Cycling Track World Championships In Rio

Great Britain closed out an incredible campaign at the Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, securing nine gold medals and a total of 23 podium finishes to finish second in the medal table behind Australia.

Double Delight For Jordan & Khan, Ball & Lloyd

Elizabeth Jordan and pilot Dannielle Khan delivered yet another stellar performance, capturing gold in the women’s B sprint final after defeating Australia’s Jess Gallagher and Jacquie Mengler-Mohr. Their victory added to their earlier success in the women’s B 1km time trial.

Fellow Britons Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl also impressed, taking bronze in the same category to round off an excellent showing for Team GB’s women’s tandem riders.

In the men’s B category, James Ball and pilot Steffan Lloyd mirrored the feat, claiming their second gold of the championships with victory over Australian rivals Kane Perris and Luke Zaccaria in the men’s B sprint final.

Agonizing Near Miss In Mixed Team Sprint

GB narrowly missed out on a third gold on the final day, finishing just two-hundredths of a second behind Australia in the mixed C1–5 750m team sprint. The trio of Kadeena Cox, Finlay Graham, and Jody Cundy had to settle for silver — a result that nonetheless capped a strong team performance.

For Graham, that silver marked his fifth medal of the championships, following earlier podiums in the men’s C3 events.

Consistent Excellence Across All Categories

Archie Atkinson continued his fine form with another silver medal in the men’s C4 elimination race, taking his personal tally to three medals in Rio.

Team GB’s overall medal haul — nine gold, eight silver, and six bronze — underscores their continued dominance in para-cycling. The squad had also topped the podium at the Paris Paralympic Games last year, cementing their reputation as one of the sport’s powerhouse nations.
