Atalanta head coach Ivan Juric has commended Ademola Lookman for showing a much-improved attitude in recent weeks, linking the Nigerian forward’s positive mindset to a gradual return to form.
The 27-year-old Super Eagles star endured a tough summer after attempting to force a move to Inter Milan — a decision that saw him skip pre-season training with Atalanta. Despite the tension, the club stood firm, blocking the transfer and leaving Lookman frustrated.
However, Juric has revealed that Lookman’s recent behavior has been commendable and that it’s helping him rediscover the confidence that once made him one of Africa’s brightest attacking talents.
“I hope that he will return from international duty with the same attitude that I saw in the last two or three weeks that he worked with us, where I had no complaints,” Juric told Sport Mediaset.
“It was a great attitude, really positive, and I want to make up for the time we lost over the summer. He is not yet at his best, but I hope to see the right spirit from him.”
The Atalanta manager further highlighted that while Lookman is still working his way back to top form, his recent performances have been encouraging.
“Lookman was named African Player of the Year, so that says it all. The other day, he played in a position that was not his usual role for the first time, but he showed some good things and was only lacking a goal,” Juric added.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Atalanta are preparing a contract extension for the Nigerian star. According to Pulse Sports, Lookman is willing to commit his future to the club only if a €40 million release clause is included in the deal.
If Juric’s observations are anything to go by, Lookman’s renewed focus might just be the spark La Dea need as they push for a strong Serie A campaign.
