Xabi Alonso Not Ready To Let Gonzalo Garcia Leave As Real Madrid Expect Avalanche Of Offers For Young Striker In January Transfer Window
Real Madrid are bracing themselves for an avalanche of offers for their young sensation Gonzalo Garcia ahead of the January transfer window, but head coach Xabi Alonso has no intention of letting the striker leave.
The 21-year-old forward has quickly become one of the most talked-about prospects in the sports market, thanks to his performances on the global stage — yet, ironically, he’s struggling for minutes in Madrid’s current campaign.
Gonzalo’s Club World Cup Heroics Earned Him A Promotion
When injuries hit Kylian Mbappe and Endrick during the Club World Cup, Gonzalo Garcia stepped up in sensational fashion. Starting all six games, he scored four goals and one assist, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
His fearless displays helped Real Madrid dominate the competition and ultimately convinced the club to hand him a new contract until 2030, as well as a promotion to the first team. It seemed like the perfect fairytale moment — a youth academy graduate making his mark on the world stage.
Struggling For Game Time Under Xabi Alonso
However, fast forward to the 2025–26 season, and Gonzalo’s momentum appears to have stalled. Despite his Club World Cup heroics, he has started just one of Madrid’s 10 league games, playing only 101 minutes in total.
Mbappe’s scorching form — with 14 goals already this season — and Rodrygo’s consistency have made it tough for the youngster to break into the starting lineup. For a player who thrives on confidence and rhythm, that limited exposure is beginning to raise questions about his development.
Transfer Window Tension: Clubs On Red Alert
According to Marca, multiple clubs — including Premier League sides — are lining up January bids for the Spanish forward. Gonzalo already rejected summer offers to stay and fight for his place, but with game time scarce, that decision may soon be revisited.
Complicating matters further is the return of Endrick, who’s yet to feature under Alonso but is determined to make his mark. The competition for attacking roles could push Gonzalo closer to the exit door.
Meanwhile, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, West Ham, and Real Sociedad are also monitoring the situation closely — though Juve are reportedly eyeing Endrick as their primary target.
Alonso’s Firm Stance: No Departures In January
Despite growing outside interest, Xabi Alonso remains firm. He reportedly views Gonzalo as an “important rotational piece” for the long term and wants to integrate him gradually rather than risk losing another academy gem too early.
For Madrid, balancing youth development and superstar depth has always been a challenge. But with Gonzalo’s potential clear for all to see, this might just be a battle they can’t afford to lose.
