Man City Eye Move To Sign ‘Brazilian Erling Haaland’ With £87m Release Clause As Pep Guardiola’s Side Look To The Future
Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Brazil’s latest football sensation — Wendeson Wanderley Santos de Melo, popularly known as Dell, or as fans have dubbed him, “The Brazilian Erling Haaland.”
At just 17 years old, Dell has already become one of the hottest names in the sports market, and it’s no surprise that Pep Guardiola’s side have taken notice.
Dell’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of electric. After making his senior debut for Bahia at just 16, the young striker has been breaking records and hearts alike. His combination of Haaland-like power and Brazilian flair has turned him into one of the most exciting prospects in world football.
During the 2023 season, Dell scored 40 goals in 34 matches for Bahia’s Under-17 team — a staggering stat that immediately drew attention from European scouts. He followed that up with 12 goals in 21 games the following season, helping Bahia capture their first Baianao Championship and earning his nickname, “The Haaland of Sertão.”
His performances didn’t stop there. Dell also shone brightly on the international stage, netting goals for Brazil’s youth teams at both the U15 and U17 South American Championships, even winning the Golden Boot.
Now, with the U17 World Cup in Qatar on the horizon, Dell is once again expected to be in the global spotlight. But Manchester City might already have an advantage — the City Football Group owns 90% of Bahia, making any potential deal smoother than usual.
The teenager has already voiced his admiration for the Premier League champions.
“Every player dreams of playing at a high level in Europe,” Dell told ESPN Brazil. “I have this dream of playing for a club like Manchester City. But I want to win titles at Bahia first before going abroad.”
With an £87 million release clause, Dell isn’t just another academy prodigy — he’s a player built for the big stage. His finishing, movement, and confidence make him one to watch in the evolving global sports market.
Whether or not City make their move soon, one thing is clear: Dell represents the next wave of Brazilian brilliance, and the world’s best sports blogs — including us here at Sports Market International — will be watching closely as his story unfolds.
