Martin Odegaard Injury Update: Arsenal Captain Facing Lengthy Spell Out With Knee Damage

Arsenal and Norway have been dealt a major blow after Martin Odegaard suffered medial collateral ligament damage during a Premier League clash with West Ham. The midfielder, who has endured a stop-start season due to injuries, could now be set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

How Long Will Odegaard Be Out?

While Arsenal have not put an official timescale on their captain’s recovery, former Norwegian national team doctor Lars Engebretsen has hinted that the 26-year-old could miss six to eight weeks. He explained:

“I don’t have information about exactly what the MRI showed but based on the injury video, it could be a lateral ligament injury. If it is such an injury, Odegaard risks being out for six to eight weeks. It could also be a more extensive injury, cruciate ligaments maybe. In that case, the period on the sidelines could be longer.”

This setback comes after Odegaard was forced off early against Leeds and Nottingham Forest, making him the first Premier League player to be withdrawn before half-time in three straight appearances this season.

Norway And Haaland React

Norway boss Stale Solbakken admitted his side will have to change their tactical setup ahead of a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Israel, saying:

“We lose our spokesman, and we have to live with that. It is the third time in a short time, and it is hard for him and hard for Arsenal.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland also voiced his disappointment:

“It’s a shame and it’s not good for us. We need him, so I hope it’s not serious. We’re going to miss our captain, it’s tough.”

Arteta On Losing His Captain

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the impact of losing Odegaard, highlighting the unique qualities his captain brings:

“He’s our captain and is a player that gives us a completely different dimension with the things that he can do, especially in attacking.”

What This Means For Arsenal

Without Odegaard, Arsenal face a huge creative void in midfield just as their Premier League and Champions League campaigns intensify. His leadership, passing range, and attacking vision have been central to Arteta’s project, and his absence could force tactical reshuffles in the coming weeks.
