Bayern Munich are playing a risky waiting game with Harry Kane’s future, as speculation intensifies around potential Premier League and MLS moves.
The England captain, who joined Bayern from Tottenham in 2023, has a €65 million (£57m/$75m) release clause that could allow him to walk away as early as next summer. According to Bild, Bayern’s plan is to gamble by holding off on any contract extension until February 1, when the clause expires, leaving Kane free to trigger it if another club comes calling before then.
While Kane’s current contract runs until 2027, Bayern are biding their time, banking on his commitment and hoping to secure an extension once the danger window closes. The Bavarians know they risk unsettling their star striker, but for now, their focus is on performance rather than paperwork.
Since arriving in Germany, Kane has been nothing short of prolific. The striker has scored an astonishing 103 goals in 106 appearances, firing Bayern to the 2024/25 Bundesliga title—his first major club trophy. This season alone, he has already netted 18 goals with three assists in just 10 games, proving his status as one of the most lethal forwards in world football.
Despite his record-breaking form, speculation about Kane’s return to England has never gone away. Brentford manager Thomas Frank recently admitted he’d love to see Kane back in the Premier League, where he sits just 48 goals shy of Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260.
Meanwhile, MLS clubs are monitoring the situation, knowing Kane could be the biggest global signing in the league’s history.
For now, Kane insists he’s “all in” with Bayern but hasn’t closed the door on new opportunities.
“In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that,” Kane said this week. “I haven’t had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise I would be willing to talk. Obviously, it depends on how the next year or so goes and what we achieve together. Right now, I would say we are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else.”
The Bavarians’ wait-and-see strategy could either cement Kane’s legacy in Munich or open the door for another dramatic transfer saga. With Premier League and MLS clubs circling, Bayern’s risk might just become football’s next blockbuster story.
