Jack Draper Appoints Jamie Delgado, Andy Murray’s Former Coach, as New Head Coach
British tennis star Jack Draper has confirmed Jamie Delgado as his new head coach, marking a significant step as he prepares for the 2025 season. Delgado, best known for guiding Andy Murray during his rise to world No. 1, will now become the dominant voice in Draper’s camp.
The 23-year-old world No. 8 has been sidelined since Wimbledon with a bone bruise in his left arm, limiting him to just one singles match in recent months. Draper hopes Delgado’s experience at the highest level will help him build on a breakout period in his young career.
Draper’s Progress and Coaching Shuffle
Draper’s rise has been rapid. In the past two years, he:
-
Reached a US Open semi-final
-
Won his first two ATP titles
-
Captured his first Masters 1000 crown at Indian Wells
-
Climbed into the world’s top four
His long-time coach, James Trotman, has been a constant presence over the last four years, but after a demanding travel schedule, Trotman will now take on a reduced role while remaining part of the team.
South African Wayne Ferreira briefly joined Draper’s setup last year, helping him secure his first ATP title in Stuttgart, but Draper later admitted he preferred to work under a single guiding voice.
“In my own head, I’m an over-thinker,” Draper said at the US Open. “I like to keep things simple as much as possible. I felt like I wanted to keep it to one voice.”
Delgado’s Proven Pedigree
Delgado’s coaching résumé is impressive. When he became Murray’s principal coach in 2016, the Scot went on to:
-
Reach his first French Open final
-
Win a second Wimbledon title
-
Finish the year as world No. 1, on the back of a stunning 24-match winning streak
Although Murray’s hip problems slowed his career the following year, Delgado remained loyal, working with him until 2021. He more recently coached Grigor Dimitrov for three years, before parting ways last month.
Now, Delgado joins Draper’s growing team, which already features two other Murray alumni – physio Shane Annun and fitness coach Matt Little.
Eyes on a Comeback
Draper is scheduled to make his return at the UTS Grand Final in London this December. While his US Open run was cut short by injury after a promising first-round win, he has been training regularly at the National Tennis Centre in recent weeks.
With Delgado at his side, Draper will be hoping 2025 is the year he establishes himself as a consistent Grand Slam contender – and possibly a future world No. 1.
