Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez is in stable condition after being injured in a reported stabbing incident in Indianapolis.
The 38-year-old, once the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, was in town to commentate on the Colts vs. Raiders game for Fox Sports when the incident occurred on Saturday.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers are investigating a “physical disturbance” involving two adult men. One man suffered lacerations while the other sustained injuries “consistent with stab wounds.” Sanchez was hospitalized following the altercation and remains in stable condition.
Fox Sports released a statement confirming the incident:
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition. We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
The New York Jets also shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter):
“Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6.”
During his five seasons with the Jets, Sanchez famously wore the No. 6 jersey and led the team to two consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances.
In his 10-year NFL career, he threw for 15,357 yards, 86 touchdowns, and 89 interceptions across stints with the Eagles, Cowboys, Bears, and Commanders.
Following his retirement in 2019, Sanchez transitioned into broadcasting, working first with ESPN before joining Fox Sports in 2021.
As he recovers, fans and colleagues alike are rallying behind him, hoping for a swift and full recovery.
