Oshoala Strikes Late As Al-Hilal Edge Al-Ittihad In Saudi Women’s League Thriller
Asisat Oshoala continues to light up the Saudi Women’s Premier League, netting a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Al-Hilal secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Al-Ittihad on Thursday.
In what was a pulsating match between two of the league’s heavyweights, it was Nigerian stars Asisat Oshoala and Ashleigh Plumptre who stole the spotlight.
With Al-Hilal leading 2-1 late in the second half, Plumptre—playing for Al-Ittihad—delivered a precise assist that led to the 85th-minute equalizer, bringing the game to 2-2 and setting up a nervy finish.
But it was Oshoala who had the final say.
In the 93rd minute, the Super Falcons forward latched onto a late chance and clinically buried it past the keeper, handing Al-Hilal all three points and keeping their perfect record intact.
Oshoala’s Hot Streak Continues
Oshoala has now scored in every single game since joining Al-Hilal this summer—four matches, four goals. It’s no surprise she was recently named Saudi Women’s Premier League Player of the Month for September.
Her late-game heroics have not only won matches but also lifted Al-Hilal to the top of the eight-team league table with 12 points from four games.
Super Falcons Impact
This clash also showcased the growing influence of Nigerian players in the Saudi Women’s League. Ashleigh Plumptre, a consistent performer for both club and country, provided her first assist of the season and remains a key figure in Al-Ittihad’s setup.
Despite the loss, Al-Ittihad sit fourth in the standings and will be aiming to bounce back in their next outing.
What’s Next?
With both Oshoala and Plumptre thriving, fans and analysts alike are keeping a close watch on the Saudi Women’s Premier League. The Nigerian duo’s performances are not just making headlines—they’re helping to elevate the profile of women’s football in the region.
