Nicolo Bulega Dominates Aragon WorldSBK as Jonathan Rea Finishes Fifth
Italy’s Nicolo Bulega claimed a brilliant double on Sunday at the World Superbike round in Aragon, winning both the Superpole race and the second feature race to take his tally to 10 victories this season.
Bulega took full advantage of a mistake from Toprak Razgatlioglu to cruise home more than three seconds clear, piling pressure on the BMW rider at the top of the championship standings.
Despite the error, two-time world champion Razgatlioglu still leads the title race by 36 points, thanks to his victory in Saturday’s first feature race.
Jonathan Rea’s Mixed Weekend
Northern Ireland’s Jonathan Rea endured a frustrating Saturday, finishing 13th after tyre issues, but bounced back with stronger showings on Sunday. The six-time world champion climbed to eighth in the sprint race before battling to fifth place in the feature race, narrowly losing out to Andrea Iannone for fourth.
The result leaves the 38-year-old sitting 18th in the standings as he prepares to bow out of the sport at the end of the season.
Yamaha Confirm Rea’s Replacement
Following Sunday’s action, Yamaha announced that Xavi Vierge will replace Rea when he retires after the season finale in Spain.
Rea will see out his legendary career at the final two rounds of the championship — first in Portugal (10-12 October) before his farewell appearance in Spain (17-19 October).
