Amy Hunt Secures Silver Medal In Tokyo After Six-Year Journey To Sprint Glory

Amy Hunt’s incredible rise to global recognition culminated in a silver medal at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, capping off six years of perseverance, hard work, and balancing academics with elite athletics.

A Journey Of Dedication

Before her breakthrough on the world stage, Hunt navigated numerous obstacles while studying English at the University of Cambridge, demonstrating that elite sporting ambition and academic excellence can go hand in hand.

When she crossed the finish line in the women’s 200m final, Hunt was initially in disbelief. Her elation quickly took over as she skipped down the track, celebrating her monumental achievement.

The Race That Defined Her Season

USA’s Melissa Jefferson-Wooden dominated, claiming gold in a new Personal Best of 21.68s to complete an incredible sprint double, having won the 100m title days earlier in a championship record of 10.61s. Hunt secured silver, edging out Jamaican sprint great Shericka Jackson with a time of 22.14s, cementing her status as one of Britain’s fastest ever sprinters.

A Season Of Consistency And Personal Bests

Hunt’s Tokyo success was the highlight of a standout 2025 season. She set PBs across multiple distances, including a 7.09s 60m indoor season best, a 100m mark placing her fourth on the British all-time list, and a 200m PB of 22.08s, making her the second-fastest British woman over the distance, surpassing Kathy Cook.

Reflecting on her achievement, Hunt told BBC Sport:

“I just beat some amazing girls and I can’t believe it. I am showing that you can do everything. Anything you set your mind to, you can be the best at everything.”

Amy Hunt’s story is a powerful reminder of determination, resilience, and belief, inspiring athletes worldwide to pursue greatness, both on and off the track.
