Kelechi Iheanacho Gutted As Celtic Are Held To 1-1 Draw By Red Star Belgrade In Europa League
Kelechi Iheanacho couldn’t hide his frustration after Celtic were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Red Star Belgrade in their UEFA Europa League clash on Wednesday night.
At the Rajko Mitić Stadium, Brendan Rodgers’ men looked on course for a vital away victory when Iheanacho stepped off the bench to give the Scottish champions the lead with a composed finish in the 55th minute.
But just 10 minutes later, Red Star’s experienced forward Marko Arnautovic struck back to level the tie, leaving the game finely balanced heading into next week’s return leg.
Iheanacho Speaks Out
After the match, the Nigerian international took to social media to share his feelings with fans:
“European nights!! Gutted we didn’t get the win tonight, we go again next week. Thank you to our amazing fans for the support #CelticFC,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Strong Start To Life At Celtic
Despite the disappointment, Iheanacho has already made a strong impact since his move to Scotland. He has now notched two goals and one assist in just three appearances across all competitions — quickly becoming a key attacking option for Rodgers.
With his experience at the top level and ability to deliver in big moments, Celtic will be counting on the 28-year-old when they host Red Star in the decisive second leg.
Sports Market Insight
From a sports market perspective, Iheanacho’s influence is clear:
-
His arrival has boosted Celtic’s attacking depth.
-
His proven record in Europe makes him a valuable asset for both the club’s domestic and continental ambitions.
-
His form could see his market value rise again, especially if he keeps delivering on the big stage.
Celtic fans will be hoping Iheanacho can turn frustration into celebration when the two sides meet again in Glasgow.
