Onyedika Shows Star Power in Champions League — A Boost for Super Eagles and Nigerian Football
Raphael Onyedika delivered a commanding midfield performance as Club Brugge opened their Champions League campaign with a statement 2-1 victory over Monaco on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian international was everywhere for the Belgian champions — breaking up play, dictating tempo, and driving his side forward. His energy and composure in possession earned him plaudits as Brugge overpowered their Ligue 1 opponents.
After an evenly balanced first half, Brugge broke the deadlock through Andreas Skov Olsen’s powerful strike before Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder equalised from the penalty spot. But Onyedika’s relentless pressing and progressive passing paved the way for Roman Yaremchuk’s decisive late winner.
For Super Eagles coach Finidi George, the midfielder’s display is another reminder of why Onyedika must be trusted as a starter for Nigeria ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
The 23-year-old’s form at the highest level could be pivotal as the Super Eagles aim to rebuild confidence and secure their place on the global stage.
