Ajax Assistant Coach Kiki Musampa Arrested for €100,000 Tax Fraud in the Netherlands
Former professional footballer Kiki Musampa, best known for his time at Manchester City and Ajax, has been arrested by Dutch authorities over allegations of tax fraud amounting to more than €100,000.
Musampa, 48, was detained earlier this week after a raid on his residence conducted by the Netherlands’ Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD). The operation reportedly resulted in the seizure of luxury watches and financial documents.
The football world has been rocked by the news, especially given Musampa’s current position as assistant coach for Jong Ajax, the reserve team of the Eredivisie giants.
Kiki Musampa Allegedly Declared False Tax Residency
The tax fraud investigation centers around claims that Musampa falsely registered as a non-resident for tax purposes while still earning income in the Netherlands. According to investigators, this maneuver allegedly allowed him to evade over €100,000 in taxes.
FIOD has also taken into custody a 65-year-old accountant believed to have facilitated the fraud. Local reports suggest Musampa has faced longstanding financial challenges, including a recent repossession of a property in Amsterdam due to unpaid debts.
Musampa was released from police custody the following day, but the investigation remains active.

Former Man City Star Faces Scrutiny
Kiki Musampa rose to fame as a talented winger with stints at Ajax, Atlético Madrid, Málaga, and Bordeaux. However, many English fans remember him best from his loan spell at Manchester City during the 2004–05 Premier League season, where he scored memorable goals and helped secure City’s mid-table finish.
Now, two decades later, the headlines have shifted from football to finance — and not in a good way.
Implications for Ajax and Football Governance
This arrest comes at a time when football clubs and coaches are under increased scrutiny for their financial activities, both during and after their playing careers. As a figure now embedded in Ajax’s coaching system, Musampa’s legal troubles may raise concerns over due diligence and staff compliance protocols at one of Europe’s most prestigious academies.
Ajax has confirmed awareness of the situation but has not issued a formal statement pending the outcome of the investigation.
What’s Next for Kiki Musampa?
The Dutch tax authorities are expected to continue their review of Musampa’s finances and cross-border income. Potential outcomes may include formal charges, financial penalties, or further legal action, depending on the evidence.
The situation also raises broader questions for other former athletes involved in international earnings and complex residency structures — especially those who transition into coaching or ambassadorial roles within clubs.
