Girona, Valencia, Vallecano Battle For Sadiq
Sadiq Umar has been linked with Girona and Valencia in recent weeks, but another LaLiga club playing continental football has entered the mix…
Spanish LaLiga club Rayo Vallecano have expressed their interest in signing Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar from Real Sociedad, according to Soccernet.ng.
The talks surrounding Sadiq Umar’s future have dragged on since the end of last summer.
The Super Eagles spent half of last season at Valencia after struggling to make an impact at Real Sociedad in his first 28 months at the club due to injuries and loss of form.
At Valencia, he contributed six goals in 19 appearances. He looked quite brilliant in Los Ches colours and was one of their best players. But they refused to sign him permanently at the end of his loan deal.
However, barely weeks after, Valencia are back for Sadiq, as they want to sign him permanently. But they now have company, with Girona also interested in acquiring the services of the Super Eagles star.
The talks have dragged on for some weeks, but the parties involved are yet to reach a compromise, even though Sadiq is reportedly favouring a Valencia transfer.
Now, according to Radio Marca, Rayo Vallecano have inquired about the possibility of signing Sadiq this summer.
The club does not have many attacking options, and they believe that Sadiq might be able to help them this season.
Why Rayo Vallecano Want Sadiq Umar
Rayo Vallecano have been punching above their weight since last season, as they finished 8th in LaLiga last season.
They are currently in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers and have a good shot at qualifying for the competition.
Due to their involvement in Europe, they need a much bigger squad to be able to compete well and cope with injuries.
Unlike the other LaLiga big boys, Rayo Vallecano do not have the finances to compete. So, they need cheaper options.
Sadiq Umar can be prolific if he has a good working environment. He would also come relatively cheap.
However, a move on Sadiq would depend on their qualification for the Conference League, which will be determined if they defeat Neman in the final phase of qualifiers.
