NWFL Nationwide Returns for 2025 Season
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced the immediate return of the NWFL Nationwide for the 2025 calendar season, marking its first campaign since 2023.
The Nationwide, which is the third tier of women’s football league in Nigeria, was last held in 2023 before being scrapped in 2024 and replaced by the now-suspended States League.
Speaking on the development on Tuesday, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, credited Nationwide’s return to recommendation and approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership.
“The reinstatement of the NWFL Nationwide is a significant step towards strengthening the women’s football pyramid in Nigeria, hugely thanks to President Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF board,” Shabi said.
“As the third tier, it plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing talent, giving more grassroots clubs and players the opportunity to compete, grow, and aspire to higher levels of the game.”
The NWFL COO has further urged all interested clubs nationwide to complete their registration within the stipulated period by submitting entries to operations@thenwfl.com
Registration opens on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and closes on September 26, 2025, with no late entries accepted.
The NWFL Nationwide will run from October 3 to October 12, 2025, with the host venue to be announced in due course.
